El TRAIDOR DE PRAGA

A thrilling novel that links Prague to Washington, South Yemen, Paris, Sitges, Madrid, Havana, Berlin, Geneva and Panama.

A plot with fiction and historic facts mixed with real and fictional characters.

A story that reveals the secrets of international espionage and we´ll never know for sure if it really happened, but all can be…
The plot

In November 1989, major Paredes, second man of Cuban intelligence in Prague, decides passing top-secret information to CIA, amid the debacle of communist regimes of Eastern Europe. In Washington, this betrayal attitude causes doubt and skepticism, although Javier Puig, the Cuban-American spy, liaised with his old friend Paredes, is trying to convince Langley that it is not a Cuban provocation or infiltration, but the honest decision of a brave man, putting his own life at stake, helping the Fidel Castro regime to fall. But Puig’s own credibility is also questioned by hawks of the Central Intelligence Agency.

Lil, a radical German young student, converted spy by the Cuban intelligence service, is the trigger that make the Americans to finally accept the information in which Paredes is warning of a terrible terrorist attack that Cuba and agents of the European dying socialist field, grouped in an ultra-secret organization, Solidarity International Command (SIC), are about to perpetrate.

Book reviews

El Nuevo Herald (The Miami Herald-Miami) – 09.09.12
Manuel C. Díaz

El traidor de Praga is a novel that has been written so carefully, so that we just

can imagine the amount of research the author had to do. There are so many

details and although it is known that the story is fictional, it is accepted as truth even for the most unlikely scenes. After the publication of this excellent novel, one cannot say that the genre of spy novels has no literary tradition in

Spanish, it has just been born, and it is of Cuban origin. From now on, the spies will not come from the cold, they are coming from the tropics.

Humberto Lopez y Guerra weaves a plot that has a lot of credibility (which is
essential in this type of novel). Everything is fine stitching, the characters feels real and the reader enjoy an agile prose, dizzying (another characteristic of the genre) (…) An intense book that can leave us perplexed and wondering how much can be true or at least potentially possible in this excellent novel.

Diario de Cuba | Aurora Boreal (Arizona) 14-12-2012

The topic of a novel, as a band of outlaws, must ”catch the reader” becomes a decisive sign of quality spy novels. El traidor de Praga (Verbum, Madrid, 2012) reached this merit from its first argument cuts.

Radio Praga (Praga) – 21-07-2012

El traidor de Praga, written by the Swedish Cuban filmmaker, journalist and writer Humberto Lopez and Guerra, is without exaggeration one of those

books that captivates the reader from the first to the last page. The author takes us through the maze that represented the last days of communism in the Soviet bloc, the radius of influence of Moscow, which then came to Cuba. The novel, which combines fiction with reality, is a testament to both a complaint and what the Eastern European totalitarian systems were and what remains of the Castro regime in Cuba.

Cubaencuentro (Madrid) – 09/05/2012
Luis Manuel García Méndez

El traidor de Praga is, in many ways, an original work in the context of Cuban literature. It is well plotted and maintains a frenetic pace as in the best tradition of the genre. The novel has been built on a thorough investigation that goes from the main lines of the politics and history of the twentieth century until the details of the action that often grant for an additional narrative credibility.
